What is Cognizin® Citicoline, and Why is it in Our Focus Cookie?

Apr 29, 2026

You've probably never heard of it. By the end of this, you'll wonder why it isn't in everything.

Cognizin® Citicoline is a well-researched nootropic that has demonstrated support for productivity by sustaining focus, attention, and memory in healthy adults. Here's everything you need to know.

What is citicoline?

Citicoline (CDP-choline) is a naturally occurring nutrient found in every cell in the human body. It's a precursor to phosphatidylcholine, a key component of cell membranes, particularly in the brain. Your body produces some on its own, but supplementing with it has been shown to support brain function in meaningful, measurable ways.

Cognizin® is a patented form of citicoline developed by Kyowa Hakko. It's the version used in the majority of clinical research on citicoline's cognitive effects, which is why we chose it specifically. Not all citicoline is the same. The Cognizin® brand is backed by a body of clinical evidence that generic citicoline sources are not.

What does the research actually show?

Studies on Cognizin® Citicoline have shown support for:

  • Sustained attention and focus, particularly for tasks requiring concentration over extended periods
  • Working memory and information processing speed
  • Reduced mental fatigue during cognitively demanding tasks
  • Motor speed and psychomotor performance

A key study published in the Journal of Attention Disorders found that 250mg of Cognizin® Citicoline daily improved attention performance in adolescent males. Multiple studies in healthy adults have replicated focus and mental energy benefits at the same dose range.

Importantly, citicoline is not a stimulant. It doesn't work by flooding your brain with cortisol or artificially elevating heart rate. It supports the underlying neurochemistry that makes sustained focus possible: the phospholipid structure of brain cell membranes and the availability of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in attention and memory.

What dose actually matters?

The clinical research on Cognizin® citicoline has consistently used doses in the 250mg to 500mg range. Benefits at doses below 200mg are not well-established. And yet you'll find citicoline on ingredient labels in products that contain 50mg, 75mg, or even less. That's technically enough to list on the label. It is not nearly enough to do what the label implies.

Our Focus cookie contains 250mg of Cognizin® citicoline per cookie. Not per serving of three cookies. Per cookie.

How does it work with creatine and caffeine?

The Focus cookie isn't built around citicoline alone. It's a cognitive performance stack in a single cookie.

Cognizin® citicoline handles the sustained focus and mental clarity side. Creatine (3g per cookie) supports brain energy metabolism and cognitive performance, a benefit that goes well beyond the gym.

Together, they address three main levers of cognitive performance: the neurochemical foundation via citicoline, the energy supply via creatine, and the alertness activation via naturally-occuring caffeine. It's a stack that would cost real money assembled from individual supplements. We put it in a dark chocolate cookie.

Is Cognizin® safe?

Citicoline has a strong safety profile across decades of research. It's been studied in healthy adults, older adults, and clinical populations. No serious adverse effects have been reported at supplemental doses. It's considered safe for daily use.

As with any functional ingredient, consult a healthcare professional if you're pregnant, nursing, or managing a specific health condition. Our Focus cookie also contains caffeine, so it's not recommended for children or those with caffeine sensitivity.
